Misty Morn - Re-imagined

A while back, a friend and I went to Kalispell Montana for a workshop and while there we visited Glacier National Park a couple of times. On one of the days, it was drizzly and “misty”, so photography was the charge for the day instead of painting on site.

Sometime ago I decided to paint what I saw that day from a photograph I took and my memory of how it was. Cold and miserable. After creating the painting of the falls at McDonald Creek, I really wanted more out of it. I felt there was something missing.  It was just “okay” but not how I really want to portray this national treasure. After all, some of the great women painters of long ago and of today have portrayed Glacier National Park, a stunning and magical place, so well.

Several days ago I drug out the painting, took it out of the frame and reworked some of the passages, and now I have “Misty Morn – Re-imagined”. I added more color and water to the rock formations on the left that are in shadow, added more color to the main waterfall, pushed the mountain in the upper right back into the background and brightened the sky. I’m much happier with the result and I hope you like it too. Be sure to check out "Augmented Reality" (the AR button)  to project images right onto your very own wall in your home. You can change up sizes, wall colors and see what it will look like.
